A Simple "Thank - You"

I remember when Hudson was first diagnosed.. Which, I know, wasn't that long ago..  But I remember sitting in his hospital room, watching my little boy try to nap as the machines around him buzzed and beeped. I thought to myself, as I stared at his white blonde little head "Everything is different now.  Everything has changed."  I LOVE slurpees.  When I am pregnant, I crave slurpees.  Slurpees for some odd reason helped me lot with my morning sickness.  It has made living with a sore throat on days when you catch a cold, so much easier.  Even when I have the flu, slurpees make it better.  Well, this was a disease that slurpees could not fix, but rather when drank in large doses, could cause a huge spike in my little boy's sugar levels.  I felt so bad on the days when I NEEDED a slurpee but had to hide it from my son, who I know would have LOVED  sip.. Until the day my sister told me Mac's had a Crystal Lite slurpee!!!!  I vaguely remember seeing it at the store, but never tried it.  And now, all excited, I had to see for myself.  So one night, after our Parents of Diabetic Children Support group, we swung by Mac's to grab a kids size for Hudson.  He was beyond excited to take a sip of his slurpee.  And I was equally as excited knowing that he could enjoy it all if he wanted and it wouldnt effect him as we drove home! A little taste of heaven!!  The next day, I emailed the Mac's store's headquarters to let them know how very appreciative I was that they made this type of drink available in their stores, and that now, my newly diagnosed son could enjoy a tasty summer treat!  Well, thinking nothing of it, I sent the email, and than totally forgot about it all.. until today when, at 8:30am, I get a phonecall from the head office of Mac's informing me that they were so glad to receive the email and that they are working hard to make this slurpee available to all stores for this very reason.  The CEO of Mac's wants to share Hudson's story with everyone and let them know that the smallest of things can make a huge difference in the life of someone so small.  It was like giving back a little piece of childhood to my little boy :)  And to top it all off.. we get a summer's supply of all the slurpee we want!!  How awesome is that!!!??  All because of a simple thank you !

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.

I find that alot that companies genuinely WANT to help but have no idea how or what to do. Honestly, it was such a nice surprise to hear from the headoffice of Mac's. It was so incredible to know that they cared enough to give us a call. We were not expecting them to DO anything for us. But such a simple act as giving my 3 year old newly diagnosed son coupons for all the slurpees he wants honestly made us feel like there were more people behind us, backing us up and cheering us on in this brand new journey we are on. It was incredible!! We live in an amazing town, and such a supportive community. We have felt right from the beginning of all this newness ( well.. all 4 months of it) that if WE act in a positive way towards what has happened to us, and not answer peoples in a "you should KNOW " sort of way than in return we gain their respect and support!
Thank you for your comments :)
