This Valentine's Day has turned into an amazing day!!!
I was dreading holidays such as this one.. full of all the sugary treats that make the day extra special. Before all this, I had planned an amazing day full of cupcakes... flaming strawberries, sugar cookies with icing and all..
Now, Valentine's Day has changed.. for the better!
I wanted this day to be just as special for my little boy, who talks about Valentine's Day all year. Its one of his favorite holidays. So last week we decided to decorate the whole house with colorful paper hearts!!! Something so simple and so bright.. something special for Valentine's Day!
Hudson woke up this morning to heart shaped pancakes and 1 cup of strawberries... I know all you moms reading this.. quickly calculating the carbs as you read this... so it was 2 - 4" pancakes.. 1 cup of strawberries and pink milk... for a grand total of 40 carbs :)
Instead of candy and chocolate ( which I returned when I found out Hudson had diabetes)
we bought him a new game and some coloring books.. which is way better anyways.. it doesn't give him a sugar high OR cavities!
We were going about our morning.. eating heart shaped pink SUGAR FREE jello as a snack when the door bell rang... it was the Mail Lady!!!
I didn't expect him to fly here so fast... I didn't expect to see him for at least another week, considering he was coming from across the ocean. I was so excited to finally meet this newest addition to our family!!
An amazing present from Hippo & Friends for my Hudson!!!
It came on the perfect day at the perfect time!!
A Package has Arrived!!! |
Look who is inside!!!! |
Lovin the Hippo.. Hippo gets a tour! |
Hudson opened the box and let out the cutest half scream half giggle as he grabbed the Hippo and hugged him so tight! The warmest welcome for our weary traveller!
After that, Hippo got the grand tour of our basement from Hudson.. they "rode to the mall" on Hudson's train.. they played with Thomas.. and than it was time to come upstairs so Hippo could get his needles. Just to let you know, Hippo never even blinked!
Hudson and Hippo sat on the floor, making plans with Tenley's giraffe, of the next time they would all go to the zoo. As I type, our Diva-Betic Hippo ( we call him that because he had to ride first class to our home) is sitting between Hudson and I, enjoying a grilled cheese sandwich and mini nacho chips.. again, all you moms of diabetic children.. I can hear you calculating... 1 grilled cheese... 2 pieces of bread is 30... cheese is free.. and a protein.. and 15 nacho chips are 15g and for desert... a del montoe fruit cup packed in water... for 6 g.. so yes, he has eaten his recommended 45g for lunch:) plus a little bit more.. but oh well.. he was at 3.5 before lunch so he can use a boost!
Hippo gets his insulin shots! Hudson knew right away what the colored patches were for! I never had to explain it to him |
